Interchange Basin

The photograph looks east from the Interchange basement warehouse across the Interchange Basin, commonly called Dead Dog Hole or Basin, to the Wine and Beer Vaults (WBV). The beer vaults, built in 1856, provided direct access to the dock for the transshipment of beer barrels but were bricked up when W & A Gilbey took them over in 1869 as their No. 1 bonded warehouse.

CRHT would like to see a bridge across the basin from the basement warehouse to the WBV, the development of the WBV and their connection with both the Eastern Horse Tunnel and the towpath. The end of the basin should feature a café. The idea of creating a café here as a meeting point called “Dead Dog Hole” seems quintessentially Camden.
