For the history of Camden Shed see The railways.

In the mid 1950s the major part of Primrose Hill station building was adapted as a social club for staff employed at Camden Shed, with dance hall, bar and beer cellar. This will have quenched the thirst of the large resident population of railway workers in Camden and Primrose Hill. It will have served the off-duty aristocracy of the working class, the long-distance drivers and firemen that were accommodated overnight in nearby Stephenson House (photo below) and awaiting their next assignments, as seen in the 1936 Daily Arrangements Board (H. C. Casserley collection).
After the banishment of steam in 1962, Camden Shed enjoyed a brief twilight, housing diesels. The Shed was closed completely in January 1966 and pulled down the same year to be replaced by smokeless sidings and train washing facilities.
